Delicious gyro, if not a bit expensive. A decent portion of meat nestled among a reasonable (read, not used as filler) amount of lettuce makes for a satisfying meal. I opted for the additional side of Tzatziki sauce for dipping - well worth it.
I ordered a chicken gyro combo with a greek salad for the side. What I could eat of the gyro was pretty good, however one of the grilled chicken tenders on it was straight up pink inside. It was probably okay, but it ruined my appetite. The lettuce on the gyro was just iceburg, which for an $8 sandwhich is really cheap and lazy in my opinion. The "greek" salad and "large" drink bumped my order up to $12. The drink would have been called a medium anywhere else, so that felt like a rip off. The salad was what really ticked me off (aside from the underdone chicken): it consisted of more iceburg lettuce, far too many onions, two cherry tomatoes, one greek olive, cheese sprinkled on top, and far to much dry seasonings on top. It was dry and felt like i was eating straight basil. It didnt have any sort of dressing. So i wound up paying $13 (with tip) for half of an average chicken gyro and a medium sprite.
Been eating here for years and years and its still some of my favorite food in Asheville. Whenever me and my wife get a craving for something delicious we usually end up here. You can tell the owner cares.
My overall opinion: not that great, overly expensive, and potentially unsafe meats.
I will admit that I didn't bring any of this to the attention of the staff, as I am a big weenie who detests confrontation... So I don't know if these issues could have been resolved well at the restaurant.
Have ordered pizza as well as pasta. They have great food at reasonable prices and are "on time". My only request would be a few "gluten free" crust or pasta selections...
Acropolis Pizza Cafe is the best in WNC hands down! My family loves it and its the only place we recommend to either sit down for a quick bite or something to take home. The menu is loaded with options for everyone. Always a hit!
