French Broad food co-op has everything you need in a local health food store. Organic and fresh. I enjoy shopping here and the prices are comprable to other health food stores. They are a volunteer run cooperative benefiting the local consumer and vendor community. They feature fresh, organic vegetables, homemade lunches and salads, a hot bar, herbal and tea apothecary, bulk grains, vitamins, supplements, tinctures , bath products, organic dried goods and canned goods as well. Essential oils, books, Frozen items, gluten-free, vegan, Etc...
I certainly wish they would allow public recycling, especially for members. I live outside of those zones. All my waste goes to the dump now because it's "illegal" to try to recycle. A compost program would be awesome also. Hopefully with the new store.
This is my favorite grocer. From the produce to the bulk room to the staff to the physical building to the membership benefits to all the Asheville local products they carry, I thoroughly enjoy the experience. I hit the discount opportunities hard and find that helps to even out the higher costs they have on average given the higher quality items they carry.
The bulk room is awesome though. I bring my glass jars, weigh them to tare, fill up and label. Nice and easy. Local flours, coffee, grains, granola, and every herb I've ever heard of or needed and more!
Not enough local produce. Potatoes from Washington, Apples from California, Bell Peppers from Holland... Why?
I'm looking forward to the expansion process, and what it can do for the community. The co-op business model rocks!
There are hot and salad bars available, though rarely impressive, definitely better than Earth Fare's.
They have a great selection for a relatively limited space and helpful staff. Glad to support this wonderful place!
We have been members for three years now: it isn't necessary to shop there but it is a small price to pay for the quality and concern shown for the community. One of the first (if not 'the' first) stores to focus on organic and local foods. Good selection of vitamins and supplements.
I love to buy local eggs here, and Field day house products. The meat and fish selection is limited but definitely available. There's a good selection of local breads from Owl bakery, and others.
