I am finally bowling like I remembered. I have consistently bowled at least one 200+ game per series and all based on this pro-shop's experience and knowledge. Needless to say I have yet to buy that new ball, but he has a customer for life and I am happy to let others know of my experience. Plus, I may still get that other ball since it's been 10 years since i've purchased a new one; but at this point i'm quite content.
Finally, I went in to find out if they'd match a deal i'd found on the internet on a new ball. The owner was a little combative at first, and rightfully so. He asked me tons of questions I could not ask (nor did I even understand) about the 'comparable' internet ball. He then started to dialogue with me about MY bowling, my ball etc. He took a look at it and he asked me if it'd ever been cleaned? He asked if I had some discomfort in my ball etc.
I recently started bowling again after about an 8 year hiatus. I had become frustrated with my bowling and was certain my bowling ball was the problem. I visited the pro shop on a couple occasions looking at balls and asking some non specific questions. At first, the staff didn't seem to take an interest in helping me, but it is the only pro shop (that I know of) in the area. So I continued to give them opportunities to 'win over' my business.
Long story short, he 'baked' the oil out of my ball and re-drilled my thumb hole after looking at my hand shape. The adjustments were minimal (fractions of inches) but he was spot-on just by eyeballing my hand on the ball and his measurements confirmed!
They certainly know what they're doing and are not afraid to let you know that they are true professionals in their trade.
